ExoFlex

ExoFlex – Smart energy optimisation for energy companies, properties and industry

Turn heat load into smart energy flexibility

ExoFlex is a control and optimisation solution that transforms heat pump plants, hybrid systems and heat loads into an active part of the modern energy system.

The solution uses simulation, weather forecasts, historical data and real-time measurement to predict heating demand and electricity consumption in advance. This allows energy use to be optimised according to market conditions, production needs and costs. The result is lower energy costs, improved energy efficiency and new opportunities for service-based business.

Exocon supplies the equipment and technology – we do not compete with our customers

Exocon is an equipment manufacturer and technology platform provider. We do not compete with energy companies, aggregators or other market participants. We provide a tool that enables our customers to make more effective use of heat loads, heat pumps and energy systems within their own services and business models.

What is ExoFlex?

Traditionally, a heat pump consumes electricity whenever heat is needed. ExoFlex takes this further: the system predicts future heating demand and electricity consumption, identifies when electricity is cheap and when it makes sense to shift load – and knows when the market needs flexibility. This turns the heat pump plant from a passive consumer into an active part of the energy system.

How value is created

Exocon supplies the heat pump equipment, automation, sensor data, simulation models, consumption and load forecasts, control interfaces, and optimisation capability.

The energy company or aggregator uses this capacity within its own business – for example, for electricity price optimisation, load shifting, peak power management, portfolio optimisation, flexibility markets, or its own energy services.

The end customer benefits from lower energy costs, improved security of supply, predictable costs and a better return on investment.

How does ExoFlex work?

ExoFlex uses weather forecasts, historical data, site characteristics and usage profiles to predict future heating demand up to two weeks ahead. The forecast for the coming week is typically the most accurate, with accuracy improving closer to the present.
Once heating demand is known, the electrical energy required for production at different times can also be forecast. This enables advance planning of energy use.

The system automatically controls production based on real-time data, forecasts and predefined targets. The goal may be the lowest energy cost, the lowest peak power, the best utilisation rate, or market-based flexibility.

Control can be implemented, for example, according to the electricity spot price, to reduce consumption peaks, to make use of on-site production, to shift load to cheaper hours, to charge storage tanks at the optimal time, to optimise multiple energy sources, or to ensure security of supply.

The system refines its model based on actual data and improves its forecasts over time.
